Note: October is one of my favorite months out of the year (for many reasons) and when I saw this photo I couldn’t resist. It gives off such creepy & cool vibes!
Okay, so it has been a HOT MINUTE since I posted last and honestly, I didn’t think it’d take this long. I meant to keep posting throughout the month, but time got away from me as I’m working on my internship (and I’m lined up for another one!) so I went from zero to one hundred real fast in terms of what I do during my day.
As you can see, I’ve also changed the blog design just a bit. Not only was I feeling uninspired with my previous one, it’s also that I feel I’ve grown out of it, so I knew it was time for a change. There’s still some work that needs to be done, but overall I’m happy with it, and I didn’t want to wait for those things to be finished before putting up a new post.
Usually I’m not into writing monthly favorites, well, monthly, because it takes me a while to get through products and I don’t buy new ones all the time. However, this month was my birthday month (woo!) so I’ve got a heap of new products that I’ve been trialing and will be talking about in the coming weeks.
So without further ado, my October favorites!
Milk Makeup Bronzer in Baked
I got quite a bit of Milk Makeup things for my birthday, which was very exciting because Milk Makeup is a brand I’ve wanted to try for a long while and even something I talked about on this blog when it came out.
The bronzer in particular was a product I was actually flip flopping on whether I wanted needed or not. It wasn’t until I watched a few of Amy Serrano’s tutorials with her using this that I wanted to get it. It looked like it blended so seamlessly, and the color looked natural and not too dark. I had been wondering if I should get the darker color “Blaze”, but Amy is a smidge darker than me from what I can tell, and Baked looked so good on her.
Firstly, it definitely smells like play doh. I don’t say this in a bad way, and I don’t believe it’s overly strong, but it’s definitely there. You can still wear this out, but be warned.
Otherwise, I love the size, because it’s big and covers like, half my cheek in one swipe. The color was lighter than I expected, but worked out really well on my skin tone. Plus, and this is a major plus, it did blend out easily and evenly. I usually use my NYX Bright Idea Illuminator in Maui Suntan as a stick bronzer, and it took me some time to figure out how to blend it without being patchy onto my face. Not so with this one.
I can’t say much for staying power, mostly because I rarely have problems with products not lasting long on my face. So pretty much everything about it is a hit for me, and I’ve already recommended this to a few of my friends looking for a stick bronzer.
Tarte Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Blush in Paaarty
Now comes the Sephora birthday gift! I put this off for a while because I was debating between the Caudalie and this one, but ultimately went with this because I love my blushes and lipsticks. Even though they were mini sized, I can tell they’ll last a very long time.
Of course, right after is when Influenster decided to say: “Hey, review the Caudalie birthday gifts from Sephora and get a badge!” Thanks for that. Thanks.
The color is a pinkish neutral color, and I can imagine it being flattering on a multitude of skin tones. It’s also matte, which I like. I showed this to my friend and told her to sign up for the Sephora email list so she could get it before her birthday, since she’s been looking for a neutral, matte blush that won’t accentuate her oily, blemish-prone skin.
Although I like the color, it is one you could probably find easily somewhere else, or one you may already have a similar color in your own collection. Personally, I only have a few blushes, so this is still worth it for me. But again, if you’re a blush person, you probably have the color stashed away somewhere.
Julep Nail Polish in Meiko Boho Glam
Generally I am not one for nail polishes, simply because I don’t wear them very often. When I moved, I did a major downsizing of my collection, and again recently when I found many had dried up. As such, I’ve sworn off buying nail polishes (even basic colors) until I’m through with the ones I have.
This does not apply when my mother sends me one with the rest of my Julep stuff.
It’s a glittery gold that can be applied over another color or built on its own. Normally I try to stay away from glitter literally only because it’s so hard to take off, but twas not the case with this one. I use the Sephora Instant Nail Polish Remover to remove my polish, and there were only a few nails I had to dip in twice.
I can see myself using this quite a lot on my nails, even on its own.
For those who don’t know, Netflix is very much part of my daily routine, and that means I am constantly watching something. Usually that something is reruns of my favorite sitcoms, or reruns of my favorite crime shows, because it’s hard to find something good that I haven’t already watched, and are more than one season.
The Five is about a kid who went missing when he was five years old, and twenty years later, they find his DNA at a crime scene. Whaaaaat. It’s crazy. There are lots of plot twists, and even though I wouldn’t say it’s a light show, it’s not super dark either. I had no problem binging it (which is exactly what I did, especially towards the end).
Unfortunately, it is not more than one season; in fact, there are only ten episodes and it’s not going to have a second season, because they pretty much wrapped it up. This is probably one of the few shows where I have been wholly satisfied by the ending.
What have you been up to lately?
