Although I haven't posted most of the month, it's time for the October favorites! Check out what I've been liking, whether beauty items or TV shows.

Note: October is one of my favorite months out of the year (for many reasons) and when I saw this photo I couldn’t resist. It gives off such creepy & cool vibes!

Okay, so it has been a HOT MINUTE since I posted last and honestly, I didn’t think it’d take this long. I meant to keep posting throughout the month, but time got away from me as I’m working on my internship (and I’m lined up for another one!) so I went from zero to one hundred real fast in terms of what I do during my day.

As you can see, I’ve also changed the blog design just a bit. Not only was I feeling uninspired with my previous one, it’s also that I feel I’ve grown out of it, so I knew it was time for a change. There’s still some work that needs to be done, but overall I’m happy with it, and I didn’t want to wait for those things to be finished before putting up a new post.

Usually I’m not into writing monthly favorites, well, monthly, because it takes me a while to get through products and I don’t buy new ones all the time. However, this month was my birthday month (woo!) so I’ve got a heap of new products that I’ve been trialing and will be talking about in the coming weeks.

So without further ado, my October favorites!

Milk Makeup Bronzer in Baked

I got quite a bit of Milk Makeup things for my birthday, which was very exciting because Milk Makeup is a brand I’ve wanted to try for a long while and even something I talked about on this blog when it came out.

The bronzer in particular was a product I was actually flip flopping on whether I wanted needed or not. It wasn’t until I watched a few of Amy Serrano’s tutorials with her using this that I wanted to get it. It looked like it blended so seamlessly, and the color looked natural and not too dark. I had been wondering if I should get the darker color “Blaze”, but Amy is a smidge darker than me from what I can tell, and Baked looked so good on her.

Firstly, it definitely smells like play doh. I don’t say this in a bad way, and I don’t believe it’s overly strong, but it’s definitely there. You can still wear this out, but be warned.

Otherwise, I love the size, because it’s big and covers like, half my cheek in one swipe. The color was lighter than I expected, but worked out really well on my skin tone. Plus, and this is a major plus, it did blend out easily and evenly. I usually use my NYX Bright Idea Illuminator in Maui Suntan as a stick bronzer, and it took me some time to figure out how to blend it without being patchy onto my face. Not so with this one.

I can’t say much for staying power, mostly because I rarely have problems with products not lasting long on my face. So pretty much everything about it is a hit for me, and I’ve already recommended this to a few of my friends looking for a stick bronzer.

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Blush in Paaarty

Now comes the Sephora birthday gift! I put this off for a while because I was debating between the Caudalie and this one, but ultimately went with this because I love my blushes and lipsticks. Even though they were mini sized, I can tell they’ll last a very long time.

Of course, right after is when Influenster decided to say: “Hey, review the Caudalie birthday gifts from Sephora and get a badge!” Thanks for that. Thanks.

The color is a pinkish neutral color, and I can imagine it being flattering on a multitude of skin tones. It’s also matte, which I like. I showed this to my friend and told her to sign up for the Sephora email list so she could get it before her birthday, since she’s been looking for a neutral, matte blush that won’t accentuate her oily, blemish-prone skin.

Although I like the color, it is one you could probably find easily somewhere else, or one you may already have a similar color in your own collection. Personally, I only have a few blushes, so this is still worth it for me. But again, if you’re a blush person, you probably have the color stashed away somewhere.

Julep Nail Polish in Meiko Boho Glam

Generally I am not one for nail polishes, simply because I don’t wear them very often. When I moved, I did a major downsizing of my collection, and again recently when I found many had dried up. As such, I’ve sworn off buying nail polishes (even basic colors) until I’m through with the ones I have.

This does not apply when my mother sends me one with the rest of my Julep stuff.

It’s a glittery gold that can be applied over another color or built on its own. Normally I try to stay away from glitter literally only because it’s so hard to take off, but twas not the case with this one. I use the Sephora Instant Nail Polish Remover to remove my polish, and there were only a few nails I had to dip in twice.

I can see myself using this quite a lot on my nails, even on its own.

The Five

For those who don’t know, Netflix is very much part of my daily routine, and that means I am constantly watching something. Usually that something is reruns of my favorite sitcoms, or reruns of my favorite crime shows, because it’s hard to find something good that I haven’t already watched, and are more than one season.

The Five is about a kid who went missing when he was five years old, and twenty years later, they find his DNA at a crime scene. Whaaaaat. It’s crazy. There are lots of plot twists, and even though I wouldn’t say it’s a light show, it’s not super dark either. I had no problem binging it (which is exactly what I did, especially towards the end).

Unfortunately, it is not more than one season; in fact, there are only ten episodes and it’s not going to have a second season, because they pretty much wrapped it up. This is probably one of the few shows where I have been wholly satisfied by the ending.

What have you been up to lately?

  • I noticed that you changed your blog design and it’s beautiful and very professional looking. I have yet to try anything from Julep but many have raved about the quality.

thanks, Shireen! yeah, I kinda got tired of attempting to diy and it not working at all, hah.

  • Laura

I live tarte blushes too! They look beautiful and last all day one me 🙂

    • Sam

      Yes! What’s your favorite color?

      • Laura

At the moment I like more berry shades x

  • Happy (belated.. by now i think?) birthday and love your new blog design! I have always wanted to try Milk beauty because it’s all over the internet but never had the chance to. I’ve been needing a new netflix show to watch, been trying to get into sense8 and though the cinematography and execution is amazing, i have troubles getting into it and keep it as background noise instead so thank god i read this post, i’ll definitely give the Five a go now x

Haha, yes, belated, and thank you! Yeah, it also took me a little bit to get into sense8 because it was weird to keep up with and I had no idea what was going on, but eventually I got into it. Super disappointed they’re discontinuing it! Anywhoo, definitely try the five, there’s so many twists!

  • Dang you should’ve done a birthday done – happy very belated birthday! Loving the new design also, so swishy!!!! You pro girl 😉 it’s been getting SO cold here and I don’t like it T__T I’ve just been taking time out to relax and go for walks since I’ve been busy the last couple of months!

I have one Tarte blush and it’s very pretty, takes me forever to finish up though…

Haha, thank you!! I’ve been wanting to do some major changes but the diy route was apparently not working at all for me :p ooh, going out for walks sounds nice. It’s just starting to get cooler around here, so it’s nice to go outside when I’m feeling particularly unproductive. & yeah, I’ve been super into mini sizes, just so I can actually finish up products – and they last longer than you think!

  • Happy belated birthday, I hope you had a great one! I’m a big fan of that Tarte blush as well, it’s such a wearable color, and the size is perfectly for traveling!
Netflix has been on a roll with releasing some great shows. I just finished Mindhunter and will start Stranger Things season 2. White Gold was another one I really enjoyed and I’m glad they’ll be renewing it for a second season!

    • Sam

Thanks Jenny, I did! I agree, for me netflix shows are a hit and miss deal, but I’ve been finding a lot of hits lately! I’m slowwwly making my way through stranger things 2 because I know it’ll be a long while until season 3 is released. I wasn’t sure whether to start mindhunter or not, the summary didn’t really catch my eye, but maybe I’ll give it a try!

  • Diana Maria

Tarte is a great brand I always love their products and quality! Happy Belated Birthday, I hope you had a wonderful time celebrating. Autumn is my favorite season as well, October is just so mysterious and dream like for me xx

Sending light & love your way,

    My Lovelier Days

    • Sam

Thank you, Diana! yesss, october is so dreamy especially with the halloween vibes – but I still love these last three months!

  • you’re back!!! how did i miss this post?! i love how easily the milk bronzer blends in too, it was a nice surprise actually! i have one other stick that i use for contour (bite beauty multistick in cocoa) and it’s so. hard. to. blend. definitely not something i’d use for quick makeup!

i actually ended up missing my birthday gift in september cause i didn’t buy anything! *pats self on back* i’m probably not missing out though, iirc caudalie skincare is a bit pungent?? and i probably have dupes of the tarte blush/lipstick in my collection too.

the five sounds like something my bf & i would be into – mostly for me, because i’m the picky one that doesn’t like anything horror or too thrilling or too mysterious. i’m pretty much scared of everything lol.

oh nice! yeah, at first I thought I wasn’t going to end up getting it, but I ended up walking right past a sephora, and since you don’t have to buy anything if you go in, I was like sweeeet. haha. & apparently I’m missing some basics in my makeup collection, so the colors work out for me!

ooh, definitely try watching the five. I’m pretty easily scared too, but I didn’t think it was bad at all!
